Character Limit Trimmer

Cut text to fit 160, 280 or any character limit. Your text never leaves your browser.

Handy presets

How the cut works

  1. Characters are counted from the start until the limit is reached.
  2. With "Count spaces" off, spaces and line breaks are skipped in the count.
  3. With "End at a full sentence" on, the result is shortened back to the last sentence ending. A full stop inside a number such as 3.5 is not treated as a sentence ending.
  4. Trailing spaces are removed from the trimmed result.

Frequently asked questions

Can I trim without cutting a sentence in half?

Yes. Turn on "End at a full sentence" and the result stops at the last . ! or ? that fits. If there is no sentence ending inside the limit, it falls back to cutting at the exact character.

What if the limit does not count spaces?

Untick "Count spaces" and only non-space characters are counted, while spaces and line breaks are kept in the result.

Will emoji or accented letters get broken?

No. The tool counts and cuts by visible characters (grapheme clusters), so emoji with skin tones, flags and accented letters are never split in half.
